FromSoftware definitely doesn’t joke around when it comes to combat in its games, and Elden Ring is no exception. If you’re having fun in the game until Raya Lucaria’s Academy in Liurnia, you may have already beaten the Red Wolf of Radagon. What comes next is something different, and if you are looking for help to beat the boss of the academy, here is our guide on how to beat Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon in Elden Ring.
How to beat Rennala, queen of the full moon in Elden Ring
At this point, you should be reaching level 40-45 of your chosen build, and that’s a good place to start when facing Rennala. There are two distinct phases you’ll need to get through, though the first one is definitely a much easier time.
Taking place in a massive library filled with crawling followers and Rennala suspended in the air on a protective shield, your first task is to bring her back to the ground. Look for followers with a glowing yellow aura, you can also hear the creepy lullaby singing louder if she’s around, plus these anointed followers will throw purple books at you.
Hit them with any attack and the aura will jump to another follower. Do this three times and Rennala’s shield will break when it collapses. This is your chance to attack her and deal damage. Be careful, as she will regenerate the shield with an explosive blast, so get out of the way once you see her charging.
Watch out for falling chandeliers and fire breath from her followers, and if you hear her say anything about her children being “born again”, retreat behind the bookshelves to avoid projectile damage. It won’t be long before you finish this first phase of Rennala in the Elden Ring, hopefully without getting hurt.
After an impressive cutscene, you will return to the fight with Rennala. The arena is now wide open and the boss will unleash a large number of magic attacks to take you down. Some are very easy to avoid, like flying crystals and giant moons. However, if you see her building a green magic attack, you’ll need to dodge at the last moment to avoid a lot of pain.
In order to make your attacks, you’ll need to use ranged attacks whenever Rennala’s magic fails, or move in close for melee attacks. Any bleeding weapon will work well here, and if you can hit it consistently, its attacks can be interrupted. Summoning spirits can also help distract her from attacking you.
Once her health gets low, she will start summoning her own spirits, which can range from wolves to even a dragon. These spirits will disappear over time, so you should avoid engaging them at all costs. Keep up the pressure and Rennala will go down.
