Getting yourself a torch in the Elden Ring is one of the first things you’ll want to do, as it will help light up caves that may contain valuable loot or bosses that will reward you handsomely for defeating. In this guide, we’ll explain how to get the torch and light up caves in the Elden Ringas well as how to get the lantern and what makes it worth buying additional Runes.
Getting a torch in the Elden Ring
You can buy a torch from Kale, the Elleh Church merchant, for 200 Runes. This is one of the first places you’ll visit when you leave the tutorial area.
Once you’ve bought the flashlight, you won’t have to buy it again. It doesn’t deplete or deplete, so you can equip it from your inventory when you’re exploring a dark cave or other similar areas.
Using the torch to light up caves in the Elden Ring
- Open the Menu and select ‘Team’This is done by pressing the ‘Options’ button on PlayStation or the Menu button on Xbox, and then selecting ‘Computer’.
- Select any of the first three slots in the top two rows in the upper left corner of the screen.These are your ‘weaponry’ slots for both your right and left hands.

Getting a lantern in the Elden Ring
You can buy a lantern from the nomadic trader at the Lake Liurnia shore site, shown on the map below.
The Lantern costs 1800 Runes and can be passively wornmeaning you’ll strap it to your waist, allowing you to keep your hands free for your shield and/or weapons.
The flashlight can be equipped in one of the ‘Quick Item’ slots at the bottom of the ‘Equipment’ screen, as shown below.
Then when you want to use the flashlight, simply select it with the d-pad menu down and you’re good to go.
Just like that, you’re all set to start exploring the various caves in The Lands Between with either the cheapest torch or the most expensive but slightly more useful flashlight in the Elden Ring .
