Dragon Hearts are an extremely rare item in the Elden Ring that only the brave can obtain. But you won’t just find them lying around the Midlands. You will have to search for them and prove your worth in battle. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get Dragon Hearts and what they do in the Elden Ring.
There are a few different parts here that we need to go over. First, we’ll take a look at how to get Dragon Hearts, then we’ll focus on what they can be used for. Once you get a Dragon Heart, you can talk to Bloody Finger Hunter Yura and he will give you a hint on where to take the item. But we will give you all that information below.
How to get dragon hearts in Elden Ring
To get a Dragon Heart, all you need to do is kill a dragon. This is certainly much easier said than done. But if you just stay on your horse and learn his attack patterns, then you should be able to kill a dragon even fairly early in the game.
The first one you’re likely to run into is the Flying Dragon Agheel. As his name suggests, the dragon can fly and can be found while exploring Lake Agheel. Around the middle of the lake, you will find a group of enemies. As you get closer to these weaklings, the dragon will come flying and kill them all. Don’t get too close or you’ll be caught in Agheel’s flames and suffer the same fate as the enemies.
If you’re still in the early stages of the game, then this battle can take a long time. But your patience and bravery will be rewarded once you defeat a dragon. In addition to the pile of runes, you will also get a Dragon Heart.
What are dragon hearts used for
As mentioned above, Bloody Finger Hunter Yura will tell you what to do after defeating Agheel. But chances are you’re here because you don’t want to look for it. Also, it’s a pretty straightforward answer. All you need to do is go to the altar in the Dragon Communion Church and exchange the heart for a dragon-based enchantment. That part is simple, but getting there is just a bit more complicated.
The Dragon Communion Church stands on a small island off the western coast of Limgrave. You obviously can’t cross the water, so you’ll need to enter a cave on the shoreline. In this cave, you will come across a boss battle. Do not use the quick return to the entrance after defeating this boss.
The cave you enter and the island are marked with green markers on the following map:
Proceed through the cave using the opening opposite the side you entered the boss arena from. When you come out the other side of the cave, you will be on the island that has the Dragon Communion Church. When you enter the church, you will find a giant statue of a dragon with an altar that has a flame that burns forever. Climb the altar and offer your Dragon Heart to learn a new enchantment.
Each of these Spells can be obtained by placing a Dragon Heart on the altar of the Dragon Communion Church:
- Dragon fire
- Dragon Claw
Dragon-based enchantments are extremely powerful but they also have long animations that can leave you wide open to attacks.
Time needed: 30 minutes.
