New Game Plus has become a staple in AAA RPGs, allowing players to experience the game all over again, but with a few changes to help increase the challenge and keep things fresh. FromSoftware’s latest punishment game, Elden Ring, is no different, offering a New Game Plus mode that’s sure to keep longtime Soulsborne fans happy.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to unlock and start New Game Plus, what changes make things harder, what progress from previous games carries over, and what the ‘NG+’ max game is.
Unlocking and starting Elden Ring New Game Plus
To unlock New Game Plus, you simply need to beat the main story of the game.
After the credits roll, you can load your save file and continue exploring The Lands Between if you wish. However, at this point, you can also start your New Game Plus journey at any time. To do so, interact with any Site of Grace and choose the option to restart your adventure.
This system works similarly to Dark Souls III, where players can choose to stay in their current NG loop for as long as they like and only move on when ready.
What changes in Elden Ring New Game Plus
The main difference here is that the enemies are significantly stronger and you’ll get more Runes when you defeat them as a reward to help balance things out.
What carries over in New Game+
First of all, it’s worth noting that there aren’t any big story differences when playing New Game Plus, so don’t expect a completely different experience here.
All stats, levels, items, and weapons you got in your first playthrough (and previous NG+ playthroughs) carry over to your New Game Plus playthrough, to help you stand a fighting chance against tougher enemies.
What is the Max NG+ ‘difficulty’ level
After beating Elden Ring’s New Game Plus, you can start another round of New Game Plus, further increasing the difficulty but keeping your stats and items. The game will get much harder as you progress, especially as the stat returns start to drop off and seriously decrease as your character climbs to higher levels.
This continues to ramp up to NG+7, which acts as the hardest difficulty level in Elden Ring, so to speak.
