Governor of Magdalena denies support to candidates for the Chamber and Senate







In Santa Marta a strong controversy has been generated by the use of the image of Governor Carlos Caicedo to promote a list of candidates for the House of Representatives and Senate.


The departmental president’s face appears on T-shirts used by candidates for the Congress of the Republic and on billboards, where they are invited to vote for the called Caicedo’s list.

Political opponents and candidates in general have denounced an alleged political participation of the governor to favor the members of the Citizen Force movement.

…since I was elected Governor of the Department, I have not participated in the decisions freely and voluntarily made by the directors of Fuerza Ciudadana, nor of any other movement or party

They ask the Attorney General’s Office to investigate and punish Carlos Caicedo for what they describe as irregular conduct, taking into account that as a departmental president he must be outside the electoral debate and maintaining an impartial position.

Faced with the accusations he has received, the governor of Magdalena spoke in a letterassuring that the use of his image or any other advertising element that can be identified with his person or with the position he holds “is the exclusive and individual responsibility of those who decide to use it.”

He explained that “as is known, years ago I founded the political movement Fuerza Ciudadana; However, since I was elected Governor of the Department, I have not participated in the decisions that are freely and voluntarily made by the directors of Fuerza Ciudadana, or of any other movement or party.”

The governor in his writing, as is customary in his public statements, criticized the President of the Republic and blamed him for a blockade against his administration, which he is currently concentrating on to carry out his development plan.

“My only commitment is to dignify life for the people of Magdalen, restore their rights and transform their quality of life,” he explained.

He insisted that as Governor his only objective is to seek solutions to the priority needs of the department, as was the mandate given to him by the nearly 345,000 Magdalenians who elected him.

He ended his letter by urging citizens to unite against the electoral corruption of vote buying and selling and “to overcome fear, to speak out freely through your vote this March 13, to decide your future, to exercise their right to participate in the decisions that affect them and to sovereignly elect the congressmen who represent them.”
