Horizon Forbidden West: How to swim underwater for longer

When you first start out in Horizon Forbidden West, Aloy will only be able to hold her breath underwater for a short but impressive amount of time. This is enough to sneak up on enemies out of sight, or do some light underwater exploration, but it’s not enough to explore the underwater caverns that are scattered throughout Tenakth’s territory. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to swim underwater longer in Horizon Forbidden West with the help of the diving mask.

Breathe underwater for longer in Horizon Forbidden West

To breathe underwater longer, you’ll need to get the diving mask, which you’ll unlock as part of the main story.

Specifically, it’s when you’re after the POSEIDON protocol found in the southeastern part of the Forbidden West section of the map, which is actually the flooded ruins of Las Vegas.

Get the diving mask in Horizon Forbidden West

  • Go to the quest marker and find the building with water coming out of its sides.
  • Go inside and talk to Morlund. He will explain that he and his friends have been trying to explore the ancient ruins below, when it suddenly started to flood with water. He will ask you to get him the compressed air pod for his Mk.1 breathing apparatus and the machine parts from the nearby pack.
  • Grabbing the air pod is simply a case of diving into the water hole in the building itself and grabbing it from the targeted object. how to breathe underwater in horizon forbidden west
