The benefits that beer consumption can generate in cholesterol

In November 2021, Colombia reached the highest per capita beer consumption in 25 years. The sector that manufactures this alcoholic beverage produces more than 20 million hectoliters each year to meet national demand, which accounts for its popularity in the country.

But beyond that, different investigations have been documenting the possible benefits that sporadic consumption of beer would have for the bone, immune and cardiovascular systems of women. people.

This drink is made with natural ingredients such as water, malted barley, wheat and hops, and contains nutrients and minerals such as silicon, potassium, magnesium, in addition to being low in sodium.

In addition to this, beer provides the body with vitamins A, B, D, E and polyphenols that can help improve the circulatory system. This is because the carbon dioxide that this drink provides favors the blood circulation of the oral mucosa, which can even have benefits in digestion.

There is a key ingredient in this whole process: hops. This contains xanthohumol, a natural antioxidant, and according to some studies, it serves to lower the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.

This low also contributes to prevent some cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks. Of course, the benefits that beer would generate are related to its moderate consumption, since drinking it in excess can have harmful effects on health.

The Spanish Hypertension Society (SEH-LELHA) and the Beer and Health Information Center (CICS) highlight in a report who published in 2017 that this drink, due to its low sodium content, can be beneficial for patients with hypertension.

Even so, they clarify that this is not a definitive treatment against this disease and patients who suffer from it should have a balanced diet, where there are percentages of fruits, vegetables, fish and low salt intake.
