The Sims 4 wedding expansion will not be released in Russia due to its laws against homosexuality

Electronic Arts will not publish the new expansion for The Sims 4, billed as ”I Do!”, in Russia. The reason is its strong laws against homosexuality, something the study opposes.

The government of Russia is openly homophobic, that is no secret inside and/or outside the country. But now it appears that EA has literally opposed this new content to their game getting there.

Through a blog post titled Our Commitment to You: A Letter from the Team from The Sims to the community, the developer Maxis details the reasons; not much to explain though.

The expansion pack has a storyline where there are same-sex marriages between characters. That, according to the study, “would not be something that we could freely share around the world“.

They say that with the presentation of the pack they showed “Dominique and Camille , a couple whose love knows no bounds” and the reason for “the decision we have made not to launch this pack in Russia“.

This comes with a simple choice between two: the team could have continued to tell all kinds of stories avoiding the Russian market and angering said users, or softened the content to meet the needs of certain “federal laws” by posting the game in Russia.

As you are reading these lines right now, they have chosen the first option. So the ”Yes, I do!” of The Sims 4 will not be possible in Russia.

Celebrate love your way

Over the years, you have delighted us with the ways in which your Sims have found love and celebrated it with weddings in our base game.

You have also let us know about your desire to walk down the aisle and have your Sims sit down and shed a few tears of joy as you sealed your lifelong commitment.

When we decided to create ¡Si, Quiero!, this was the vision we had for our global community: that it could reflect the joy of finding love, celebrate that love and tell stories that mean something on a personal level.

Imagining the stories that our community will tell with our packs is what inspires everything we create. For the ¡Si, Quiero! team.

As we got further into the development process and the narrative, we realized that the way we wanted to tell Cam and Dom’s story was not going to be something we could share freely around the world.

Commitment to our values

Being able to tell stories, any story, is the core of what we do in The Sims. Restricting Cam and Dom’s story meant compromising the values ??we live by.

We have a commitment to each person’s freedom to be who they are, love who they love, and tell the stories you want to tell. And what does that mean for our community?

That we are committed to fulfilling that commitment by highlighting and celebrating stories like Dom and Cam’s, which is why we’ve taken the decision to give up the release of ¡Si, Quiero! where our narrative would require changes due to federal law.

Unfortunately, this means that people who are members of The Sims community in Russia will not be able to purchase this game pack. content.

To all the Simmers around the world we want to say that we appreciate having you in our universe.

With love and gratitude,

The Sims team“.
